Compare purchase patterns, not just card designs.
| Criterion | Stamps | Points |
|---|---|---|
| What earns rewards | Purchases that meet a condition. | Recorded spending under your rule. |
| How to explain it | Complete a stamp target for a reward. | Earn points and redeem them for benefits. |
| When to try it | Repeat purchases with similar amounts. | Different ticket amounts or several benefits. |
| Rule to review | Minimum purchase and stamps per purchase. | Points per dollar and points per reward. |
| Illustrative example | 6 purchases of at least USD 3 for a drink. | 1 point per dollar; a 50-point reward. |
For coffee shops, start with visit frequency.
If regular orders cost about the same, a stamp target can be easy to remember. A minimum purchase prevents every small order from earning the same progress. The reward drink’s cost needs to fit within the margin from the purchases needed to earn it.
For restaurants, review how much ticket sizes vary.
If one table spends USD 10 and another USD 50, points can make progress follow recorded spending. You also need to explain how many points customers earn and what each reward costs. Use a rule your team can explain at checkout.
Ask four questions before choosing.
- Do I want to reward visits or spending?
- Are purchase amounts similar or quite different?
- Can the target support the cost of the reward?
- Can the team explain the rule and record transactions easily?
Try one model before adding complexity.
D Card lets you choose the model when creating a card. The plan includes up to three active cards, but you do not need three journeys to get started. Publish a clear rule, observe purchases and redemptions and review business results before expanding. The demo below uses stamps; its transactions are samples.
